Web Developer/Graphic Designer for the Office of Marketing
UCDA has been close to my heart for many years and has helped me grow as a designer these past years. I can attribute much of my learning and knowledge to the opportunities UCDA offers to me and my fellow colleagues. When I started working for higher education, I was the only graphic designer in my college and therefore, felt I was the only one and alone. However, when I attended my first UCDA Design Conference, I felt at home and was inspired by my fellow colleagues and the programming. I am always energized by the members and programming of UCDA both personally and professionally.
I’m currently a web developer/graphic designer for the Office of Marketing at Wright State University, a public research university in Dayton, Ohio, named after the Wright brothers.
Prior to Wright State, I worked for the University of Cincinnati Foundation from 2013 to 2015, and Auburn University College of Education from 2006 to 2012. I’ve been in the field of higher education marketing and branding, specifically print and web design, for 15+ years.
I claim to have roots in Tennessee (for a brief time in Clarksville), Germany, western and eastern Kentucky, Alabama, and Ohio. One side of my family comes from Pennsylvania, while the other is from Kentucky. So, I have ended up with a mish-mash of cultures. While I do live in Ohio, I can revert to my Kentucky and Alabama accents “faster than a hot knife through butter.” Yes, I still say “ya’ll” and “bless your heart” up here in the North.
Additional hobbies and interests? Professionally, I also enjoy working with user experience (UX), mobile, and email design; environmental design (displays, banners, wayfinding, and interactive design); videography such as text animation and titles; branding and identity; and sustainability.
As for personal interests, I am a gamer (board and video), a sports fan (college), an art/design lover, a tv/movie follower, a book reader, a music/theatre fan, a traveler (when I can), an animation fanatic, and an animal lover.
