Board Biography

Elana Trager
McGill University's School of Continuing Studies, Montreal, Quebec, Canada
Senior Marketing and Communications Advisor

Originally, I did not set out to be a designer. After high school, I set forward on a path into the world of business. However, upon graduation from university, my love of art won out. I found this wonderful field of graphic design where I could combine my love of drawing, sculpture, illustration, typefaces, and clean layout into one. Best of all, it allowed me to be as creative as I possibly could and continue to use what I had learned in university.

My current role is Senior Marketing and Communications Advisor at McGill University's School of Continuing Studies. This role allows me to use all my skills acquired through my career and education plus still gives me the freedom to be creative in what I do. I get to work with a creative team on a daily basis, and come up with unique strategies which really showcase the School. The environment at the School is ideal and allows for ideas to flow freely.

In my third year of working, I discovered UCDA and attended my first conference. Upon arriving at it, I felt like I had come home. Here were all these people going through the same experiences and challenges as I was, and everyone was just so willing to help in some way. I'm proud to serve on the board of this organization for a second time. They are a brilliant and tireless group. Since being part of the board, I have worked to raise awareness of UCDA and design on an international scale. Not enough people realize the importance of communications professionals in the educational market, but through this organization, the goal is to continue to elevate and promote the relevant work being done.

In my life outside of work and UCDA, I love to escape into reality TV, especially the Amazing Race. I also love watching any type of movie, especially ones that make me laugh or think differently. I also enjoy reading books and magazines. For me, this is where I can find inspiration. I did recently switch over to a Kindle but still have to go into a bookstore to choose a book. Sometime a book cover or magazine layout just catches my eye and ideas start to flow.
