Christine Prado
Clemson University
Art Director
I've been asked how I ended up in higher education. It was a long trip back home. My parents were both professors at Clemson, so I grew up in the shadow of Death Valley, our football stadium. I swore I'd get out of Clemson and move to a really big city; live like Carrie Bradshaw, before I even heard of her. Having Northern parents and growing up in the South, well, I just never fit in.
And yet I'm still here. I even graduated from Clemson. I have managed to leave on occasion, living in Charlotte and Dallas, but it just wasn't the same. Turns out I like the quiet pace as well as the opportunity to raise my daughter around her grandparents and in a good school (yes, in SC.) But I'm not really Southern. Still, come down here and mock the South, and I'm the first one to put you in your place.
I love my coworkers and my work. It's a nice pace. We are expected to produce high quality stuff, but we're given the freedom to do it in our own way. I love working on admissions pieces. It keeps me really busy, but I have some (not all) good clients who trust us to get the job done correctly.
In my spare time, I'm probably at Jazzercise. Or teaching Sunday school at the Unitarians. Or maybe I'm knitting or cooking or nagging my daughter to do her homework. But whatever it is, I'm doing something. I don't sit still very well.
UCDA has helped me a lot. First, I'm lucky to have a director who has supported us in our volunteer roles. The organization fills a niche that other groups don't quite fill. It's been really healthy for me to find these people and have these relationships. I'm excited to be part of our moving forward.
