The shootings on the campuses of Northern Illinois University and Louisiana Technical College earlier this year and the tragedy at Virginia Tech University last April brought a shocking reminder of how an ordinary, daily event can turn into tragedy. This tragedy illuminates, however, the generous human impulse to want to help those who have suffered loss. In response to this tragedy, UCDA orchestrated a poster project by asking members and designers to design a poster that reflects some aspect of campus violence--the shock of the event itself, the heroism of the survivors, or the importance of crisis preparedness. The response to this project was overwhelming! We received over 150 entries from 21 states and 19 countries! UCDA has printed all of the posters and is placing them in an online auction that will run August 27-September 5, with the proceeds benefiting NIU's February 14 Memorial Student Scholarship Fund.
