Join UCDA's eighth national conference solely for Design Educators in Blacksburg, Virginia. Take time to meet colleagues from all over North America. UCDA is famous for providing professional development in a relaxed atmosphere. Our faculty will share innovative ideas and welcome your participation in an ongoing dialogue about the critical issues facing the design education community.

• Creating the climate of opinion in which high standards of design may flourish.
• Improving standards and awareness of graphic design as a profession.
• Communicating on a regular basis with other design educators.

• to actively include educators in programming by understanding that design educators must create NEW knowledge, along with participation in the professional’s world.
• that an alternative is needed to fill the void left by ACD and GDEA.
• that UCDA should begin more of a dialogue with educators.

- Now in its seventh year, this conference continues what we hope will be an ongoing community created specifically for graphic design educators with many opportunities for your own professional participation and development.

The UCDA Design Education Summit program will take place at The Inn at Virginia Tech and the Skelton Conference Center, located on the campus of Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia.
- Dedicated to its motto, Ut Prosim (That I May Serve), Virginia Tech takes a hands-on, engaging approach to education, preparing scholars to be leaders in their fields and communities. As the commonwealth's most comprehensive university and its leading research institution, Virginia Tech offers 215 undergraduate and graduate degree programs to more than 30,000 students.
- The School of Visual Arts (SOVA) at Virginia Tech offers an expansive undergraduate education in fine art, art history, visual and digital design, embracing contemporary and traditional techniques. Through their Studio Art and Visual Communication Design Programs they offer an inclusive approach toward educating artists, implementing new and established technologies in analog and virtual realms that are uniquely available at Virginia Tech.

- Current state per diem lodging rate for Blacksburg, Virginia is $95 per room/per night (single) or $115 per room/per night (double). Each additional person is $10 per night. Guests using the state per diem rate will be asked to show their state ID at check-in.

- Note: Should the state per diem rate change, the greater of either the above rate or the new state per diem rate will apply. Once all state per diem rated rooms in UCDA's blcok have been reserved, additional guest rooms will be offered on a space availability basis.
- DIRECTIONS TO VIRGINIA TECH
The main Virginia Tech campus is located in Blacksburg, Virginia, about 40 miles southwest of Roanoke, Virginia. Use 965 Prices Fork Road or the intersection of University City Boulevard and Prices Fork Road, Blacksburg, VA 24060 as a destination for online routing and mapping software and GPS devices.This is the location of the Visitor and Undergraduate Admissions Center.
