I am originally from Iowa. Not a corn-fed farm boy, but close. It is hard to grow up in Iowa and not have some country in you. I now call South Carolina home. I must admit it was a cultural shift at first, but I have come to love this state and this part of the country. It's hard to beat being three hours from Charleston and the beach or the heart of the Smoky Mountains.
I have been working in higher education for about 20 years now. I was at Iowa State University before moving to Clemson. I did a short stint in agencies in Minneapolis before moving over to the education side. I have never regretted this decision. I have found higher ed to be the perfect environment for me. I like the variety of work and the challenge off being an inhouse agency. I am blessed with a phenomenal staff. I started out as a designer and moved up through the ranks to my current position. I now oversee print/electronic publications, displays and exhibits, the university's main website, and still photography. We do about 700 projects a year.
As for hobbies, I have become an avid runner. I have completed five marathons. I'm not sure how many more I will run, but I seem to get the bug about once a year to tackle the challenge of another. I also love to cook. It fuels my creativity. If I was starting my professional life over again I would go to culinary school. Food and cooking to me are the ultimate in designing...you are designing for every sense. I have recently gotten heavy into the art of bread baking. I love how tactile making bread is. It is meditative for me.
I have to say the best part of my professional life is UCDA. I have been a member of UCDA for a long time and have found it to be one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. I have met lifelong friends and have enhanced my career by being a part of this organization. UCDA definitely gives more than it takes. I am thankful I made the decision to get actively involved and stay involved.

Everything. Music is like food. I love variety. I like rock (even soft rock), alternative, country, dance, pop. You name it I probably like some variation of the genre.
Reading list:
Not a huge reader...except cookbooks and magazines. I love magazines. I'm a magazine junkie.
Favorite website:
I don't know that I have a favorite Website. I am very proud of where our main university site is heading though. We are making significant strides in an area that evolves it seems like daily.
Favorite city:
I love New York City!
Recommended film:
Love any movie by Baz Luhrmann or Tim Burton.
